Salone—a space transcending mere physical dimension—encapsulates a multifaceted concept: that of hospitality, of representation, of work and entertainment.

A Salone, which is generally marked by its spaciousness, is a comfortable space for gathering, socialising and hosting. It could function as a place of representation—a hall of honour, hosting dignitaries and ceremonies;

of work, a barber shop for instance, where professionals carry out their trade in conviviality; of leisure, as a party room or a games room.

In Italian, “the one” suffix implies an idea of greatness. So, Sal-one conveys a sense of spatiality and warm hospitality.

Salone is also linked to art—the famous Salon d'Automne, the avant-garde Parisian exhibition hosted since 1903. Also the architectural grandeur of Renaissance palaces such as the Salone dei Cinquecento in Florence or perhaps Palazzo della Ragione in Padua, to contemporary use, such as the redesigned Reichstag by Norman Foster or Tadao Ando's Paris Bourse or Amdavad ni Gufa by BV Doshi.
