Architecture and the Apocalypse:

Aptitude, Attitude and Practice

Date: 12 Jan, 2025 | Time: 11:30 | Experimental Theatre

In the face of humanitarian and environmental crises becoming the defining factors of our times, creatives everywhere ought to transcend designing in response to trends or for creative expression. The definition of a ‘response’ now has to supercede itself to encapsulate architecture—social, virtual, planetary, and metaphysical—that not only preps for an uncertain future, but is responsive to the possibility of disaster in an equally ominous present. Through a panel boasting professionals working at both temporal and mediatic intersections, STIR seeks to question the fundamental difference between future-proof and disaster-ready architecture in a world continually grappling with the idea of potential doom. How does one pivot discourse along meaningful directions to drive a change in attitudes and aptitudes enabling architecture to be seen that way? Can designing for a faceless user—ubiquitous but ever-changing—hold the key to architecture in the face of the apocalypse?
