Occupy! Making Space of/for/by the Subaltern

Date: 12 Jan, 2025 | Time: 13:30 | Little Theatre

How do we make space, hold space, or reclaim space in a world where access and inclusion are often contested? This panel explores the artistic and political dimensions of ‘space’ within creative practices. It brings together practitioners from diverse disciplines—ranging from art and design to community organising and activism—to share how their work engages with broader questions of identity, belonging, and power. Speakers will explore multiple meanings of ‘space’: as a physical environment, a metaphorical construct, and a political battleground. They consider how ‘space’ operates to exclude marginalised voices, and elaborate on the work that they do to build new, inclusive spaces moored in plurality and diversity. In doing so, they reflect on how their creative processes challenge hegemonic narratives, disrupt hierarchies, and foster alternative imaginaries.
