STACK

Congregation, both spatial and human, reflects a vital faculty of what makes us human: generating, relaying and portraying different stories across multiple generations and geographies, as cogent societies. In relation, Stack disallows monocular storytelling and instead, invites chronicling through a plurality of lenses. This glowing theatre-within-a-theatre, with pavilion construction by LOCO Design, screens short documentaries about Mumbai and beyond and convenes fragments from these stories as a reflection on the commonality of our lives.

Ten framed volumes surround the screening space, in a protective and expressive embrace, reflecting NCPA’s role as South Asia’s first multi-venue, multi-genre cultural centre. Framing, light and colour take cues from the Centre’s interior and exterior while contemplating the ethos of the Saraf Foundation, the pavilion’s supporting partner. On view is the making of Sagarmatha Next Director’s Cut, the foundation’s initiative reflecting its dedication to preserving culture across the Himalayas, together with several short films focusing on Maharashtra, generously provided by Virtual Bharat and others.
