The Architecture & Design Film Festival(ADFF) announces its 16th season celebrating the best documentaries exploring the inspiring, global world of architecture, design and art. Kicking off in NYC and then moving across North America with a special stop in Mumbai, the upcoming edition of the popular festival will deliver a rich program of world premieres that touch topics and locations that are meaningful to the audience. The carefully curated program films are selected both for their cinematic and narrative excellence exploring topics of sustainability, culture and the power of space — both personal and public.ADFF New York makes its return to the iconic Village East by Angelika theater, running from September 25-28, 2024. The opening night spotlights the world premiere of Stardust: The Story of Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown, with director Jim Venturi and critic Martin Filler (The New York Review of Books) delving deeper into the film during a post-screening discussion.
The U.S. premiere of Ada-My Mother the Architect will be followed by a Q&A with architect Ada Karmi-Melamede and director Yael Melamede.
World premieres include Sitting Still, a documentary about Laurie Olin, who will participate in a Q&A after the screening, and Schindler’s Space Architect, with the director in attendance for a post-film discussion. This Is Not A House, directed by Morgan Neville, will also make its world premiere, followed by a Q&A with architect Robin Donaldson and clients Lynda Weinman and Bruce Heavin. Additionally, the world premiere of The House: 6 Points of Departure will explore a unique residence designed by Thom Mayne in the 1980s.
The Swiss director of E.1027 – Eileen Gray and the House by the Sea, Beatrice Minger, will be present for the film’s U.S. premiere. The festival also showcases the U.S. premiere of two Italian films: The Pavilion on the Water, a film about Carlo Scarpa with the directors attending from Bologna for a Q&A, and Green over Gray: Emilio Ambasz, with director Francesca Molteni attending from Milan. Steven Holl, a close friend of Emilio Ambasz, will join Molteni for the discussion.
