Fuorisalone 2026

Theme: “Be the Project” - an invitation to rediscover design as a dynamic and responsible process

Details

Coinciding with the Salone del Mobile, from 20 to 26 April 2026 Fuorisalone presents a comprehensive programme of events, exhibitions, and installations throughout the city. A network of initiatives transforming each year Milan into a platform for dialogue and experimentation around contemporary design.

Design Week continues to be an unmissable appointment for professionals, designers, architects, and creatives, as well as for schools, universities, and institutions, all gathering in Milan to share visions capable of interpreting the present and imagining the future.

From bio-based materials, collectible design, and high craftsmanship, to new interpretations of living spaces, emerging designers, hybridizations, and dialogues between AI, the physical, and the digital, this edition’s offerings tangibly reflect the transformations of our contemporary world.

A constantly evolving landscape placing the project back at the centre as a living practice, an attitude, and a process.

“Be the Project” is the theme chosen for Fuorisalone 2026: an invitation to rediscover design as a dynamic and responsible process, where the human being returns to the centre as the driver of change. This path is part of an ongoing reflection developed over recent years — from Tra Spazio e Tempo (2022) to Laboratorio Futuro (2023), from Materia Natura (2024) to Mondi Connessi (2025) — leading today at a more conscious vision, where designing becomes, above all, a way of being.
“Be the Project” is not just a theme, but a perspective: an invitation to recognize oneself in change, in process, and in the courage to keep experimenting

The fifth edition of the Fuorisalone Award
Fuorisalone Award returns, a project curated by Studiolabo that rewards the most memorable content and installations by companies and designers presented during Milan Design Week.
12 projects are competing for the public's votes.
The installations can be explored in depth through a dedicated section of the Fuorisalone.it platform featuring event pages with content and photos. In parallel, joint work by the jury and the editorial staff of Fuorisalone.it focuses on content that is relevant to the world of design, qualitatively innovative and meaningful.
The selected projects will compete for the 3 Special Mentions in the categories: Sustainability & Research, Technology & Innovation, Engagement & Interaction.

e.Reporter: Documenting Milan Design Week
The e.Reporter initiative is back, a project launched in 2003 dedicated to students of design, architecture, visual arts who have a particular passion for photography and audio-visual content. The aim has always been to depict Fuorisalone through the eyes of an engaged community, representing the designers of tomorrow.

Fuorisalone: Collaboration with miart
The collaboration between miart and Fuorisalone continues, fostering a natural dialogue between Milan’s art and design weeks. In 2026, for its 30th edition, miart has chosen the title New Directions, explicitly referencing jazz music (and John Coltrane’s eponymous collection), which is understood not as a simple metaphor but as a curatorial method based on listening, transformation, and controlled improvisation.
Within this framework, the collaboration is expressed as a city-wide jazz-inspired itinerary: a thematic route connecting institutions, museums, and foundations that function like an open score, where each stop is a variation.
