The 7th Tallinn Architecture Biennale (TAB 2024) will open its doors on October 9th, 2024 in multiple venues in the heart of Tallinn, with a vast programme designed to foster dialogue, multidisciplinarity and experimentation. Dedicated to the theme “Resources For a Future”, the international architecture festival organised by the Estonian Centre for Architecture is spearheaded by head curator Anhelina L. Starkova together with Daniel A. Walser and Jaan Kuusemets.TAB 2024 focuses on how to think, design, and build architecture with repurposed and reused resources to shape the future. Addressing both architects and the general public, the TAB 2024 Official Programme consists of three main events: a curatorial exhibition, a one-day Symposium, and an Installation Competition Programme. TAB 2024 will be accompanied by a satellite programme including workshops, conferences, seminars, Open House Tallinn, and much more.
RESOURCES FOR A FUTURE
“Resources For a Future” dives into the principles of architecture that are instrumental in shaping future change. Searching for answers to questions such as “How to stabilise and enforce our architectural strategies, prolong the lifespan of buildings, and make architecture more consolidated and durable”, TAB 2024 focuses on the primary drivers of future development and how to optimise our resource.
CURATORIAL EXHIBITION
Entitled “RESOURCES FOR A FUTURE”, the main objective of the curatorial exhibition is to reimagine the usage of local resources in a way that beyond aesthetics, they will serve not only a privileged minority, but everyone.
Participants in the curatorial exhibition will be gathered in three thematic sections:
RESOURCE 1: SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE
RESOURCE 2: BUILDING CONCEPT
RESOURCE 3: MATERIAL FORMATION
SYMPOSIUM
During the Opening Week at the Estonian Academy of Arts, TAB will hold a Symposium, which aims to generate genuine interdisciplinary debates. Participating speakers come from fields ranging from architecture to design, from education to government institutions.
INSTALLATION PROGRAMME
“The For-This-Situation Pavilion” invited participants to explore new ways of using repurposed resources and bio-based materials to create a durable installation. The TAB 2024 Installation Programme Competition requested architects to imagine a public infrastructure that reuses materials from a local timber manufacturer (Thermory), second-hand material handlers and potential collaborators from quarries, forestry, waste management departments to create a community space that prioritises people, sufficiency and joy.
