Miyue· Blue & White Cliffside Resort in Nan'ao Subdistrict, Shenzhen, exemplifies the concept of 'elegant vacation' on the south coast of China, expressed through the use of a white palette throughout. Combined with the blue sea and sky, the resort design creates an ambience of calmness and natural immersion. Designed by GS Design, a leading architecture firm in China, the hospitality architecture of the resort focuses on the spatial experience of the space.
Staying true to their minimalist architectural style with a subdued colour palette, focusing on bringing the outdoors inside, GS design integrates the luxury resort with the surrounding environment, unlocking a relationship between rational space and perceptual experience behaviour. These do so through the use of arches and fabricated caves that frame the coast views, further evident in the multi-dimensional window-opening design, which seamlessly integrates the natural landscape into the interior. The material selection, rooted in earthy tones, employing natural bamboo and wood in the public dining area, further complements this idea of blurring the boundaries between the indoors and outdoors.
Employing various design elements such as colour, light, display, installations, and art, GS Design examines how people perceive space and explores the relationship between subject matter, time, body, and space, with the goal of reproducing the essence of 'sharing economy.' Collaborating with Miyue, GS Design has created a pioneering model of urban vacation that distinguishes itself from other homestays through its thoughtful consideration of overall functionality. It does so through public spaces in the design, featuring shared dining areas, a water bar, a reading recreation area, and a conference room catering to various functional needs. This is also reflected in the open plan and fluid nature of the spaces. The location amidst mountains and forests further provides a serene and secluded setting for travellers to connect with nature and themselves.
The hospitality design also comes alive through pleasing proportions manifested through an interplay of scales and elements. This is seen in the considerate placing of arches and windows throughout the space.
Integrating the outdoor landscape with the interior design ensures that the furniture is optimised for the best traveller experience. GS Design has carefully designed 25 rooms in the homestay, paying close attention to spatial planning. Each room has a unique entrance and exit space, gradually transitioning into the philosophy of 'one room, one view.'
This design approach not only maximises brand value but also considers possibilities for future brand operations and repurchases. Through surveys on city vacation information, the design firm has incorporated warm and thoughtful elements such as triangle oblique top modelling, interesting window shapes, and Japanese tatami, evoking childhood memories and creating an attic with a dream-like atmosphere.
The interior design employs a clever use of colours and subtly integrates nature. The designers constantly explore ways to connect daily life and leisure through design, creating attractive ways to awaken people's inner desire for urban vacationing. The rugged cave baths create a unique blend of outdoor nature with privacy and transparency, allowing guests to enjoy panoramic views of mountains and seas in silence. The meditative state of mind that comes with slowing down in such a serene environment will enable travellers to rediscover the power of silence and introspection. GS Design pays careful attention to the scale of each window, framing the breathtaking views and capturing the ever-changing light and shadow on the huge terrace bubble pool.
The design brings natural vividness to the vacation experience, crossing cultural context and regional differences to deliver the philosophy of life and contemporary thinking to Nan'ao County's mountains and forests.
