Beyond The Skin is an exploration of the layers that lie beyond the surface of the leather. Jumandie Seys works with vegetable-tanned leather, allowing its natural imperfections and character to come to life.
In his work, he sees the material as a canvas, as its own entity, with which the designer engages in a dialogue, discovering what the leather has to offer. Each piece is hand-patinated with natural pigments, embracing the beauty in its raw, unrefined state.
Seys's creations are monolithic, organic, and classical in form, sculptural in presence. They embody a contrast between the warm, tactile nature of leather and the industrial edge of steel, celebrating both the primal and the refined. The process is intuitive, where he allows the material to guide me, responding to the inherent energy of each piece.
