In February 1922, in the city of São Paulo, the kick-off was given, which resulted in one of the most expressive Brazilian artistic manifestations: the Modernist Movement.
Decade after decade, the innovative and avant-garde aesthetics then proposed had an impact not only on Art but also on Design and Architecture produced in our country, especially after the 1950s.
At the height of this movement, Geometry was an essential element, explored by Joaquim Tenreiro, Abraham Palatnik, José Zanine Caldas, Lygia Clark, Lygia Pape, and many other names responsible for an important change not only in the way of creating and producing but above all in the thoughts and habits of our society.
One hundred years later, in the same São Paulo, the Mercado Moderno gallery presents "Modernism | Geometry", an exhibition of pieces of historical works that portray and celebrate this passionate aesthetic, which today, finally, is exalted far beyond our borders."
