Kristina Dam Studio integrates tactile materials in a 1950s Danish family home

Kristina Dam Studio has thoughtfully redesigned a 1950s home in Denmark, where their sculptural, minimalist pieces are seamlessly integrated into the interior design of a family-focused living space. The home belongs to Elina-Maria Winther, global head of PR and Communications at Bundgaard, who lives there with her husband and their two children. “The house had remained largely untouched, and it was precisely this architectural starting point that drew them in. The layout has since been reworked with respect for the existing structure, opening up the spaces and creating a more fluid connection between them,” Kristina Dam Studio explains.

In this setting, the Copenhagen-based design studio’s products serve as natural extensions of the home’s design language. In the bathroom, the Curved Bench functions as both a practical element and a sculptural focal point. At the entrance, the Rotating Mirror introduces lightness while enhancing spatial perception and proportion.

“The interior reflects a considered balance between aesthetics and everyday life. Built-in storage is integrated throughout, helping maintain a sense of calm even in a busy family setting. Materials such as steel and concrete introduce a tactile quality, while clean, architectural forms give furniture and objects a sculptural presence,” the contemporary design studio notes.

At the heart of the home, the kitchen-dining area serves as a central gathering point. Designed for flexibility, it accommodates both daily routines and social occasions. Through this project, designs by Kristina Dam Studio demonstrate their ability to complement and elevate lived-in spaces—bringing minimalism and functionality into a home that honours both heritage and modern family living.
