Lima Charlie by Laurids Gallée transmits lights at Objects With Narratives

Objects With Narratives presents Lima Charlie, a solo exhibition by Rotterdam-based contemporary designer Laurids Gallée, on view from March 11, 2026. The design exhibition introduces a series of sculptural design works that deal with the “idea of transmission and consider how an object can signal without carrying a message”, Objects With Narratives notes in an official release.

Each product design on view at Lima Charlie interacts with light, emitting and redirecting it within its own form. As viewers move through the space, the works shift continuously, behaving like silent antennas—transmitting nothing concrete, yet fully ‘received’ through the act of looking. “Because they act as transmitters, their forms follow the same internal logic. Volumes stretch into beams, tilt into cones or widen into dish-like curves. These shapes do not imitate devices; they grow from the way a transmitting body naturally organises itself,” the Belgium-based design gallery explains.

The lighting designs are constructed as seamless volumes in which geometric primitives merge into continuous surfaces. These bodies function optically as much as physically: light bends across them, surfaces behave like lenses and perception remains in flux even as the material itself stands still. “A minimal system in the room composed of aluminium blocks and exposed lines quietly traces the path that feeds each sculpture. It acts as a reminder that even the simplest transmission relies on its own structure,” Objects With Narratives explains.

Despite their communicative appearance, the contemporary design works ultimately resist delivering explicit meaning. Instead, they assert themselves through behaviour, finding completion only through the viewer’s engagement.
