What is the name of the book?
Kelly Hoppen (KH): Becoming.
Who is the author?
(KH): Michelle Obama.
What is the genre?
KH: Autobiography, biography, memoir.
Why this book? Could you highlight any notable aspects of it?
KH: I am a big believer in reading books that help you develop, rather than fiction.
Did you get any significant insights? Did you gain knowledge, or did it help unwind?
KH: It is so inspiring that I am re-reading it. There are so many parts that help to remind me of many things that I already know about life and driving yourself.
What is your favourite quote from the book? Why?
KH: “For me, becoming isn’t about arriving somewhere or achieving a certain aim. I see it instead as forward motion, a means of evolving, a way to reach continuously toward a better self. The journey doesn’t end.”
When do you read?
KH: I have such a hectic schedule, so whenever I have some downtime at home, or on a flight or on a holiday.
What is your take on the book and one reason why you would recommend it?
KH: A sense of possibility that does not require sacrificing everything for a single goal. We all strive for a well-balanced life, a balance between family and career, between self-need and freely giving, between dreams and reality. Michelle shows a wonderful way of thinking about life, which is truly inspiring.
