Yuji Tanabe Architects (YTA) is a Kamakura city, Japan-based architectural office formed in 2008. Yuji has worked for international offices including bews and FOA. Among the honours he has received are the Fellowship by Agency for Cultural Affairs of the Japanese Government, AR House Award 2014 Honourable Mention (UK), the Arup Prize for emerging talent in architecture by Royal Academy of Arts (UK) and Good design award (JP). YTA is based in Kamakura, about one hour by train from Tokyo (Kamakura was the capital of Japan about 800 years ago). Kamakura is surrounded by mountains on three sides and the sea on one side and has a rich natural environment and traditional buildings. The reason for setting up our office here is that we believe that living while observing and feeling the changes in nature on a daily basis, and the slow flow of time, which is different from the city, are important for exploring original designs. YTA has ongoing projects in US, GR, RU & JP. He is currently teaching at ICS and SIT.
