Geometry and emotion shape Pearson Lloyd's ORRA and IRIS furniture collections

Pearson Lloyd, the London-based design studio led by Luke Pearson and Tom Lloyd, has debuted its first collaboration with HC28 maison, a leading Chinese furniture brand, marking a significant step in its growing international presence. Presented at the China International Furniture Fair (CIFF), the partnership launched two new collections—ORRA and IRIS—that signal a shift in the studio's approach towards a more expressive and intuitive design language.

While Pearson Lloyd's practice has long found beauty in rationality and the industrial design process, with ORRA and IRIS, the British designers 'began from a more expressive starting point'. The collections explore how geometry, material and proportion can alter the experience of space, reflecting both a new creative freedom and HC28 maison's evolution into a comprehensive home and lifestyle brand.

"Working with HC28 maison in China has been refreshing: their clarity and decisiveness gave us the confidence to focus on pure creative expression and bring these ideas to life for a new audience," remarks Luke. The ORRA collection is an extensive modular system designed to bring clarity and calm to shared environments. Composed of a few carefully considered parts, it allows multiple configurations, from compact two- or three-seat layouts to expansive sectional compositions, while maintaining a sense of completeness. Each configuration feels singular rather than modular, achieving what the designers describe as a "balance between function and expression," as the project's press release states.

The sculptural form of the furniture design lends presence without dominating a space. Its modules, available with either high or low backs, are complemented by supportive cushions and upholstery options in fabric or leather, and are suitable for hospitality, workplace or domestic environments.

The IRIS collection translates the colours and geometry of the human eye into tables and mirrors that play with perception, and is crafted with back-painted glass, layered reflections and geometric lines. The table design series features three pieces at two heights, while the mirrors are available in both floor-standing and wall-mounted versions. Colour and reflection define the circular design collection, with table bases in flat white or Bordeaux red tones echoed across the mirrors.
