Mario Trimarchi installs cloud sculptures at Paula Seegy Gallery for Fuorisalone 2026

For Fuorisalone at Milan Design Week 2026, Italian designer Mario Trimarchi launches Nuvole come preghiere, a solo exhibition at the Paula Seegy Gallery in Milan, on April 20, 2026. Opening in conjunction with 5VIE Design Week on April 22, 2026, the design exhibition, on view until May 12, 2026, brings together a series of ink drawings on paper alongside previously unseen sculptural works made in iron.

“At the core of the research is the cloud, a constant presence running through all the works as an element of suspension and boundary. Around it unfolds an essential and recurring visual language: animal figures such as doves and herons emerge in black and white tones, while natural objects like stones and shells anchor the composition to an earthly dimension,” the press release reads. Bridging these dimensions is the ladder, a recurring structural element suggesting ascent, transition and connection between different states of being.

The contemporary designer’s sculptures, such as Preghiera per il viaggio di ritorno, is a fine iron framework that supports the silhouette of a dove and a cloud, evoking fragility and suspension. Preghiera per il giudizio finale features a tangled wire cloud balanced on a thin structure anchored by stone, while Preghiera per ciò che resta presents a softly colored cloud rising above a small iron ladder, stabilised by a shell. The ink drawings echo these themes, alternating between dense, shadowed clouds and lighter, more diffuse forms. “The exhibition path that emerges is one of extreme delicacy, leaving room for imagination and inviting deep reflection,” notes the press release.

The title, Nuvole come preghiere (Clouds Like Prayers), draws on a text by the designer in which clouds serve as vessels for human longing and uncertainty. In a contemporary world marked by war and environmental and political crises, Trimarchi positions the cloud as both a refuge and a projection—a place where fragility is acknowledged and hope persists.

“Within the gallery, visitors experience an intimate and meditative spiritual atmosphere, in line with Trimarchi’s vision, for whom design is a vehicle capable of spreading poetry, where hope—symbolised by clouds drifting like prayers—is the only anchor to rely on,” concludes the official release.
