Loris Cecchini delves into the Shapeshifting relationships between nature and science

Galleria Continua presents Shapeshifting, a solo exhibition by Italian artist Loris Cecchini, on view from April 2 – May 30, 2026, at their Paris location. Known for his interdisciplinary art practice spanning sculpture, installation and site-specific interventions, Cecchini continues his exploration of the evolving relationships between nature and science through works that treat matter as a dynamic, unstable system.

“In this new project, Cecchini proposes an investigation of metamorphosis as a generative principle: a narrative in which form is never fixed, but in a constant state of becoming,” Galleria Continua notes in an official release.

The art exhibition brings together several of Cecchini’s key series, including Aeolian Landforms, with monochromatic surfaces evoking wind-shaped geological formations, and Wallwave Vibrations, in which subtle tensions animate architectural surfaces. In Laminascapes, vegetal structures are tuned into reflective silver landscapes, while Frictions explores molecular and cosmic processes through suspended aluminium spheres.

“The title, Shapeshifting, is not only a thematic statement but the conceptual thread that runs throughout the entire exhibition. The artist stages a universe in which formal identities transform, hybridising in a continuous exchange between organic and artificial, micro and macro, structure and fluid,” the art gallery notes.

For this exhibition, the contemporary artist also introduces a new body of work titled Penumbra, developed specifically for the occasion. These modular steel structures interact directly with living plants, creating a space where organic growth and engineered systems coexist without hierarchy. “The term ‘penumbra’ thus becomes an ontological condition, a zone of indeterminacy in which the boundaries between natural and artificial, control and autonomy, dissolve into a relational and unstable field,” the contemporary art gallery notes.

Light, colour and texture serve as perceptual triggers throughout the immersive exhibition. “Cecchini’s work occupies a threshold where matter, subjected to forces of erosion, growth or vibration, reveals its capacity to constantly negotiate between order and chaos, stasis and movement,” the gallery explains. “Shapeshifting is an invitation to enter a space where forms are never fixed, but rather reveal themselves as temporary events within an ongoing process of metamorphosis”.
