Nature of Form by David Gill Gallery explores the transformative potential of material

At this year’s London Design Festival, David Gill Gallery brings together works by Zaha Hadid, Fredrikson Stallard and Sebastian Errazuriz, among others, in Nature of Form, a design exhibition that examines distinct approaches to material and form, on view from September 12 – 19, 2026. “Each work reveals new possibilities within familiar materials, from textured surfaces to unexpected shifts in scale, texture and structure,” the design gallery notes in the project’s official release.

Across the works displayed in the showcase at the Mayfair Design District during the design event, familiar materials acquire unexpected physical and visual identities. At the heart of the exhibition is a shared territory between function and sculpture. Each product challenges conventional ideas of scale, structure and form. The resulting works appear to shift between states: solid yet fluid, monumental yet intimate, architectural yet organic.

On view is Hadid’s dining table in Liquid Glacial colour, constructed in acrylic. Its intricate contours and flowing volumes suggest water in motion, captured in a moment of transformation. Stallard’s Pyrenees sofa is realised in flocked foam and steel. Its textured surface contrasts with the strength of its underlying structure, producing an object that feels simultaneously soft and rugged. The sofa’s silhouette evokes the irregularity of an eroded landscape, bringing an elemental quality into the interior. Errazuriz’s Euphoria and Melancholia side table is made of marble, where the material’s inherent associations with permanence and weight contrast with a form that references the human body.

“Throughout these works, marble, aluminium, steel and acrylic take on new expressions, shifting between qualities of texture, weight, transparency and reflection. Surfaces fold, soften and shift, while solid forms suggest movement and introduce a sense of fluidity to the space,” the London-based contemporary design gallery notes. Nature of Form at the design festival proposes that material is not separate from form but fundamental to it.
