Roca London Gallery presents Resonant Lightscapes at London Design Festival 2026

Resonant Lightscapes at Roca London Gallery is a new immersive installation by contemporary artists Yael Erel, Gadi Sassoon and Avner BenNatan, curated by Alisa Lisovskaia, as part of the London Design Festival this year. Running from July 16 – September 14, 2026, the design exhibition builds on the artists’ Mirrored Lightscapes, which was recognised as a standout presentation at LDF 2025.

“The artists weave a visual, sonic and kinetic feedback loop that transforms the experience of Roca Gallery, inviting visitors to slowly observe their own presence in the biomimetic architecture of the space designed by Zaha Hadid. The artworks mix analogue light reflections, analogue sound, robotics, audiovisual feedback loops and mechanical resonance to alter perceptions of time, flow and movement,” Roca London Gallery notes in the official release.

Rather than treating light and sound as separate elements, Resonant Lightscapes brings them together in a continuous feedback loop. Fragments of light generated by Erel and BenNatan move across spinning, etched metal reflectors, projecting organic, constantly changing patterns onto the gallery’s curved walls, while Sassoon’s sound installation introduces a slow, reactive layer built from tape loops of his instrumental performances. “These elements combine in the kinetic layer, affecting the motion of the physical sculptures, a mechanical resonance at the centre of the audiovisual immersion,” the design gallery explains.

A live performance by Sassoon extends the dialogue between the visual and sonic realms. Using a camera, he captures the reflections generated within the design installation and translates them into sound in real time, turning light into both image and data. “In this live iteration, light becomes both image and information, entering a continuous process of transformation between reflection, data and sound,” the contemporary design gallery notes.

The exhibition also features Sassoon’s Kaleidoptera, a modular robotic sculpture that explores how movement and machine behaviour prompt perceptions of emotion, intention and personality. “Sassoon’s Kaleidoptera modules are 3D printed and infinitely replicable, designed and controlled via the artist’s bespoke agentic system 555n. The technology was developed in partnership with roboticist Rob Knight,” the gallery explains.

Erel’s Light Pebbles similarly transforms physical material into projected light. Each pebble directs white light onto a revolving augmented mirror disc, revealing the topographies of sculpted reflectors through shifting patterns. Developed with BenNatan and RPI research students and fabrication labs, the work responds closely to the London-based gallery's flowing geometry.

Also on view is Claylight Balance, a 2026 table lamp by Erel, BenNatan and Lightexture, which uses camera-obscura effects to produce playful patterns from its practical light source. A short film, Sculpting Reflections by Chalkley Calderwood and Erel, offers further insight into Erel’s approach to light and reflection.
