Shoreditch Design Week 2026 signals a new chapter for London’s premier design hub

In 2026, the climate crisis, new material innovation and the recontextualisation of tradition and cultural notions within design systems have started to fundamentally redefine both the purpose and product of contemporary design. As the industry takes a breather to reconsider its next steps towards a future that holds equal potential for bleakness and brightness, it seems only natural that the forums for showcasing and discussion of design undergo similar, if not absolute, transformations as well. The evolution of the long-standing Shoreditch Design Triangle into a more expansive and comprehensive programme for the Shoreditch Design Week (SDW) for London Design Festival 2026 appears to be a feat befitting the largest dedicated design district of the much-acclaimed global design festival.

Over the decades, Shoreditch has evolved from London’s furniture trade centre into a globally acclaimed creative hub for architects, interior designers and a variety of design studios working in the spheres of hospitality, residential, retail and workplace. From September 15 – 20, 2026, SDW will present an immersive and diverse programme that builds on the legacy of LDF’s longstanding Shoreditch Design Triangle. The festival will bring together both leading and emerging names in design to engage in more than 100 events anchored around its four main venues—the Shoreditch Town Hall, Unlocked, Protein Studios and Kachette—spanning curated showcases, showroom activations, talks and tours hosted by the district’s network of 60+ showrooms and creative spaces.

At the Shoreditch Town Hall, the district’s flagship House of ICON will return with an expansive showcase and conversations around a range of allied disciplines, including interiors, product design, residential design and hospitality architecture. Luxury interior practice 2LG Studio will be celebrating the fourth edition of its You Can Sit With Us showcase with a special exhibition, Messy Heart, curated by the studio’s founders, Russell Whitehead and Jordan Cluroe and featuring displays in home accessories, textile and lighting design from both emerging and established design brands. Isola Design will return as one of the oldest all-in-one digital platforms focused on studios working on cutting-edge solutions for a sustainable future. As an international collective bridging contemporary craft, design and material innovation, Raw Collaborative will bring Design Intelligentsia, a showcase of collectible objects, sustainable materials and emerging voices, projecting tradition, culture and histories into the future of design. 

Exhibits and events at Protein Studios will explore the influence of thoughtful spatial and product interventions on wellbeing and comfort. Curated by London-based workplace design and hospitality publication platform OnOffice, Design at Work will offer products and innovative solutions focused on increasing workplace efficiency. The studio will also be home to Neuroplaces, UK’s first B2B gathering of researchers and industry experts for addressing neuroinclusive and accessible design solutions, with special emphasis on inclusive design.

Highlighting emerging businesses amid the established pioneers across the UK, the New Designers platform will be introducing ND Selects at Kachette as an exclusive opportunity to discover the next generation of promising British creatives.

As an acclaimed platform showcasing pioneering innovations in industrial design for the better part of a decade, Design Burger is bringing Design Burger: The Product Design 100 as a carefully curated selection of the most iconic and compelling projects from the past decade, from a range of disciplines including consumer technology, furniture, lighting and mobility, in the form of a detailed publication and special exhibition interspersed with a pop-up bookshop and cultural programmes. The broader showcase will also include bespoke homeware designer This is Oink’s playful furniture collection, bespoke product designs including sculptural furniture by Phil Berczuk Design and thread-wrapping artwork by eLs Designs, along with the vibrant contemporary ceramics from Rosie May Ceramics and Riolab Ceramics. 

At Unlocked, the renowned material innovation platform, Material Matters, will arrive for its fifth edition at LDF and its first at Shoreditch. The showcase will bring pioneering designers and manufacturers exploring regenerative, low-impact material solutions under one roof. Some promising highlights include FRONT and Biomason’s bacteria-grown tile Mimmik TileTM, The Or Foundation’s range of acoustic products that use post-consumer clothing waste and Phyta Biodesign’s innovative facade and wall systems that strive to integrate wildlife habitats within built environments.

While the four venues will cover the enriching range of exhibits and events over the first three days, the conversations, performances and wider programme of LDF’s largest design district spans much further, both in time and area. At the Tab Centre, the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) will set up an immersive installation, Wood for the Trees, tracing the lifecycle of American hardwood in order to explore the potential of responsible forestry, sustainable timber and the influencing role of forests in shaping the future of construction and design. The Wax Building will turn to host novel works and site-specific presentations by Tamart and Minimalux alongside works by boutique showrooms such as Christopher Farr, Floor Story, Holte Studio and Nakagawa. In partnership with Voices of Shoreditch, the festival will further offer itself as a platform for visitors to interact with works and ideas of a diverse cohort of local designers and creatives from East London. The SDW 2026 batch includes eminent names like Alexandra Gerber, Andu Masebo, Jutta Goessi, Lee Broom, Michael Marriot, Jasper Morrison, Rio Kobayashi and Raw Edges Design Studio.

Over the last few decades, Shoreditch has secured its position as one of London’s most impactful creative hubs, with a particular focus on architecture and interior design. Since 2008, the Shoreditch Design Triangle has served as both the mouthpiece and receptor for the district, facilitating innovation and reinforcing its stronghold in the contemporary design landscape of London. In its upcoming edition, Shoreditch Design Week is set to mark a definitive phase in the evolution of this landscape, one that draws from our traditional knowledge systems to respond to the most prominent influences on the present while critically considering its implications for the future.
