Belgian furniture designer Tim Vranken presents the Fira Sideboard, a new addition to his solid, handmade furniture designs. Vranken approaches the Fira Sideboard through a simple idea: the gradual offsetting of wooden elements. Arranged in a stepped formation, these elements create a distinctive form that gives the sideboard its sculptural character. “In the Fira Sideboard, this principle is carried throughout the entire design, from the outer contours and legs to the construction of the drawers. The stepped structure is therefore not merely a visual detail, but forms the foundation of the design,” the contemporary designer notes in the official release.
Crafted from American walnut, the sideboard features six doors finished with hand-laid walnut burl veneer. “The veneer is composed like a patchwork, allowing the different grains and patterns of the wood to come together in a lively, continuous façade,” the Belgium-based designer notes.
Each drawer is constructed according to the principle established on the exterior, with the layered joinery becoming increasingly apparent as the drawers are opened. “What appears as a subtle rhythm on the outside reveals itself on the inside as complex woodworking and craftsmanship. The construction and joinery are deliberately left visible, becoming an integral part of the design. In this way, the same design principle continues consistently from exterior to interior,” Vranken explains.
A series of drawers and compartments provides dedicated storage for bottles and glassware, allowing the sideboard to double as a bar cabinet. Inside, Ceppo Beige stone and leather introduce contrasting texture to the warmth of walnut.
