Meridiani continues its rapid international consolidation with the opening of its first New York flagship store, an elegant two-level space dedicated to the brand's collections. Strategically positioned at the intersection of Lexington Ave. and East 32nd Street, the store is a few steps away from the vibrant NoMad area of Manhattan. Located north of Madison Square Park, in recent years, NoMad has become a point of reference for creativity, art and design, with elegant hotels and trendy clubs, art galleries, renowned architecture as well as interior design studios.
The inauguration of the showroom, designed by Andrea Parisio, designer and art director of the brand, took place on October 25, 2023. It represented a fundamental step for Meridiani's awareness of the US market, while also sealing long-standing relationships with American interiors and professionals who have always appreciated the refined lifestyle and craftsmanship of the brand, for both residential and contract projects. “A new Meridiani flagship store in New York City is a significant step in our path of expansion and consolidation in the USA, in a market where we are already present with a store in Miami, and where we stand out for the quality and versatility of our contract products as well as for complete residential projects. New York is dynamic and innovative, and the new store affirms Meridiani's commitment to being an active part of it with its corporate identity and energy,” says Antonella de Martino, CEO of Meridiani.
An urban and sophisticated contemporary mood is the fil rouge that coordinates the display, which shows both the Italian brand’s most recent collections as well as their most iconic product designs. White and grey, pastel shades punctuated by dark, and well-defined hues comprise the chromatic frame defining the different areas, in which the living, dining, and sleeping areas follow one another in a path that is fluid and incisive at the same time.
Launched at the recent edition of the Salone del Mobile.Milano in Milan, Italy, the Nora armchair and the Max sofa are displayed next to the dining area, where attention is captured by the Gong table, among the brand's best-sellers thanks to its elegant, sculptural look. The Oscar sofa collection, also one of Meridiani’s 2023 novelties, becomes the protagonist in an entirely dedicated space, creating a refined comfort area with its harmony of shapes. Among the brand’s evergreen furniture designs on show on the occasion of the store’s opening, the Plinto table is surrounded by the art deco-inspired Sylvie chairs, the René upholstered furniture collections and the Tuyo bed, shown here in its queen size version.
The interior project created for the New York space reconfirms the sophisticated DNA of the brand, which is at the same time, intensely Italian but with an international inspiration, essential in character. "Meridiani talks about its future without forgetting its roots, knowing how to make new collections communicate with previous ones and constantly emphasising fabric and material. The new store's ‘box’ is designed to take advantage of the whole depth of the building and provide a wide view from the entrance. The effect is enhanced by a monochrome palette of surfaces that, with shades of white and ivory, embrace the different interpretations of the offered environments," Parisio comments.
At the inauguration, the NY exhibition space also unveiled the next step of its ambitious project IDB FOR ARTS, dedicated to art and promoted by the Italian Design Brands Group. The store hosts the work of art Rotante Massimo, III (1968) by Arnaldo Pomodoro, a sphere with a diameter of 80 centimetres. The sculpture, previously on display at the brand's Milanese flagship store in via Manzoni, is now placed in the new New York store as a strong declaration of Meridiani's link with the world of art: the Italian brand has actually always proposed a lifestyle in which artistic expressions are essential for the ‘living-space’ inspiration.
