SICIS, the Italian interior decor brand known for creating and producing high-quality and innovative coating materials and furniture designs, interprets the new requirements of the market through the amalgamation of antique and modern, decorative and functional, manifesting it through their latest offerings. For the Salone del Mobile.Milano, SICIS was inspired by classical culture, with the concept inspired by the Greek term eklektikos that relates to the ability to choose, in this case, what seems best from the infinite aesthetic possibilities offered by history.
In design, eclecticism means being able to draw on multiple sources and styles to forge a harmonious blend that creates a new sense of the contemporary. It is this vision that manifests through SICIS’s design philosophy. The Italian brand that began with the production of mosaic tiles, is now an international reference point for premium Made in Italy excellence, for the creation of unique, personalised and coordinated settings, from walls to lighting, and textiles to complements and furnishings.
It is with this perspective of eclecticism that SICIS proposes its new Home collections, combining them with decorative crafted items that create a complete universe of furnishings, surfaces, textiles and complements, for solutions in line with the requests of an increasingly refined and demanding market that is in constant evolution.
In 1987, without any initial capital, armed only with his vision, determination and hopes, designer Maurizio Leo Placuzzi founded SICIS with its headquarters near Cervia. To respond to the growing and increasingly complex demands of clients, the company moved its headquarters to Ravenna, and in 1989, just two years after its founding, one of the most famous hotels of the time, the Ritz in Paris, chose SICIS mosaics to cover its luxurious internal spa facility.
Since its founding, SICIS has been leading the way in the luxury decoration world and is globally recognised as one of the decoration materials trendsetters. Driven by passion, artistry, and history, SICIS strives to elevate ancient mosaic tradition by infusing it with a contemporary aesthetic and experimenting with diverse applications. The idea of the mosaic, where each tessera is linked to the other to form a harmonious whole, has steered the development of its concept of interior design where every piece, from furniture to lighting, fabrics and up to the surfaces, joins the others to create a harmonious and complete environment.
Age-old tradition of craftsmanship meets cutting-edge technology, characterising all the productions of SICIS. Also in the area of production processes, SICIS never betrays the past. It is no coincidence, perhaps, that the company is based in Ravenna, the home of some of the world’s most famous mosaic masterpieces. Till today, SICIS relies on fine craftsmanship combined with advanced production technologies, fully respecting the most timely standards of sustainability and continues to create things that are ‘made by hand,’ with master artisans cutting the tiles to create intricate motifs.
From the small tesserae to the large glass slabs, SICIS offers a whole world of solutions for indoor and outdoor surfaces, characterised by unique designs and extreme versatility. Expanding the rich repository of surfaces are meticulously crafted furnishings and accessories—encompassing sophisticated table designs, chair designs, lighting designs, sofas and much more. Each furniture design is accompanied by an expression of personality that aspires to uplift any space it inhabits.
To create 'total SICIS' environments that offer harmonious atmosphere, keeping with the style of the brand, SICIS has over the years expanded its production to extend from facings to SICIS Interiors collection, providing a wide range of furnishings, lights, fabrics and complements.
From the most prestigious hotels to super-yachts to the most exclusive stores and the most luxurious private homes, SICIS creates projects made to measure, including the Central Park Tower residential complex in New York, the 'Delta Sky Clubs' in the United States, the ‘Jio World Centre’ in Mumbai, and the exclusive super-yacht ‘Happy Me’ constructed by Benetti.
Sic Immensos Clarosque Inceptos Somniavi (thus have I dreamt of grand and illustrious adventures), chosen in 1987 by the founder Maurizio Leo Placuzzi, suggests dreams of glory, beauty and art. Placuzzi was a lover and collector of neoclassical artefacts in micro-mosaic, and so in 1990, he created a team for the study of this refined technique inside the recently formed company. Their creativity with mosaics and furnishings is unmatched, and so in 2012, after years of historical studies and research on the micro-mosaic technique, at Baselworld, SICIS presented its first pieces of fine jewellery, created by designer Roger Thomas with whom SICIS has collaborated with exceptional results. Since then, the SICIS Jewels line has expanded year after year alongside its ever-evolving furnishings.
The adventures of SICIS, full of successes, wagers, commitment and courage, are an exemplary tale, bordering on existential speculation. Starting from the concept of eklektikos, the eclectic character of its inspirations. In philosophy, Eclecticism is a current formed in the Hellenistic-Roman era (in and around the second century BC), indicating–as it still does today–the method of taking what is considered pertinent from a range of different doctrines, bringing the various elements into harmony through a new synthesis.
This approach culminated in revolutionary results—as was the case of Placuzzi’s intuition of combining the art of mosaics with new techniques, new materials, and new forms, creating a system that represents the sum of productive design factors, derived from different styles and historical periods.
