Hospitality has long been an essential part of celebrations worldwide, particularly those that forward culture and history. As Milan prepares for the upcoming design week, the Durini District, consolidating its role within the DDDesign circuit, positions hospitality as the thread that binds the three essential elements of any design festival—city, people and design. Under the theme Design Hospitality – Milan Style, Durini seeks to explore hospitality as a way of interpreting identity, fostering exchanges and elevating the visitor experience of the design event.
Milan Design Week 2026 will feature several showcases and initiatives by DDDesign, including the installation, DDDesign in Largo Augusto, the result of a collaboration with the 1979-established Hotel Tivoli President and luxury outdoor furniture brand Tribù. Pivoted to the convergence of design, hospitality and design culture, the theme explores the dialogue between these three interconnected sectors. The space will host a talks programme, A Coffee With…, involving dialogues with distinguished design and hospitality professionals, including representatives from Milan-based fashion design school Istituto Marangoni, architect and president of ADI Lombardia, Cinzia Pagni and Sergio Costa, founder of Plana Cultural Association, a Milan-based organisation focused on promoting ethical design culture.
Beacon, a public art installation produced by Czech lighting brand BROKIS, will be positioned at Piazza San Babila, a city square connecting Milan’s major districts to the Duomo, to attract a broader audience. Inspired by mid-century modernism, the art installation features over 90 glass lampposts arranged in a chandelier-like assemblage with industrial precision. Designed by acclaimed British designer Lee Broom, Beacon was first unveiled on London’s Southbank at the 2025 edition of London Design Festival. It now embarks on a global tour, with Milan as its first stop.
PolyPiù, an Italian company and leading manufacturer of polycarbonate solutions, is set to unveil Luminous Skin, an installation in which light is abstracted as ‘the first gesture of hospitality.’ Ten illuminated sculptural towers will adorn the streets of Durini, designed by Studio AMS, to represent the Milanese lifestyle and identity. Made using polycarbonate sheets in a prismatic finish, the towers will produce striking effects, along with resisting weathering and harsh UV rays to ensure performance over time.
The Metalmorphosis installation is created by the Dal Pozzo Group’s innovative service platform Ottagono Green Architecture and designed by Michele De Lucchi-founded studio AMDL CIRCLE. Positioned between Piazza San Babila and Largo Arturo Toscanini, the design uses light-gauge steel to craft a flexible, modular and fully reversible system. Promoting sustainability through both building systems and material choices, the installation will present a more conscious idea of a contemporary dwelling.
Italian luxury furniture brand Alchymia’s installation is set to interpret the harmonious evolution of style and form that complements contemporary living. In the modern socio-cultural context marked by constant change, the project embraces these constraints while placing emphasis on the intrinsic qualities of materials. The 1925-founded Italian furniture design company ArcLinea will showcase its latest designs by architect and art director Antonio Citterio at its showroom. Milanese brand Cappellini’s display will comment on global multiculturalism, presenting a diverse range of finishes and colours that adapt to both the domestic and public built environments across various cultures and geographies.
Furniture and product design brand Boffi|DePadova will celebrate its 70th anniversary at the De Padova Santa Cecilia showroom, depicting the story of the brand’s philosophy of living through an installation featuring classic and contemporary collections. While modern furniture design brand B&B Italia—founded in 1975 alongside the artisan furniture brand Maxalto—will look back on six decades of innovation through a dedicated installation. The showcase will also feature works by Maxalto, underscoring the shared heritage and distinct identities of the two brands.
At Via Durini, 16, Italian luxury furniture brand Cassina will present a new collection that celebrates eclectic and contemporary designs. The showcase will include a sofa system by Spanish architect, industrial designer and art director Patricia Urquiola and pieces by product designer and creative director Chiara Andreatti, Italian architect and designer Gaetano Pesce and French industrial designer and architect Philippe Starck. Lighting designs by Charles & Ray Eames, Shanghai-based interdisciplinary architecture and design practice Neri&Hu and Dutch artist, interior and furniture designer Linde Freya Tangelder will also be on display, along with an original project created in collaboration with Turin-based eyewear brand Persol.
Cassina’s showcase at the shopping and dining complex 10 Corso Como will feature a narrative of handcrafted sculptural designs by Belgian designer Linde Freya Tangelder through a solo exhibition titled Fluid Re-Collection. At Via Larga, 23, known for luxury designs and flagship stores, kitchen solutions expert Cesar’s Milan showroom is set to open with a new identity. The space aspires to be more immersive and experiential, reflecting how Cesar kitchens interpret the concept of ‘Beyond Uniformity.’ The collections are conceived with consideration of people’s habits and stories instead of prioritising any predefined standards.
Milanese interior design and bespoke design brand Lualdi will present Framework, a project by Italian architect, art director and designer Piero Lissoni. The installation uses Boiserie wooden panels as an ‘active spatial infrastructure’, where surfaces come together to form an organism-like form. At Foro Buonaparte, 74, this vision of interior architecture highlights the journey of a project, ranging from its construction details to the spatial identity. At Via Borgogna, 2, ceramic tile brand Marazzi will explore an intriguing discourse on matter, light and proportions at its showroom, whereas Italian home and office furniture brand Porro, at Via Uberto Visconti Di Modrone, 29, will celebrate its 101 years of existence by seeking inspiration from its past.
Parma-based modular kitchen design company SCIC Italia will present its latest projects that transcend the boundaries of a traditional kitchen. With the theme Essere Progetto, it unveils a new design model by designers Anna and Enrico Cattaneo, along with a new outdoor kitchen and Night Collection. Technogym will present a video art installation to celebrate four decades of Unica, the company’s home wellness design brand, founded in 1986 by Nerio Alessandri. Meanwhile, Milan-based Zanotta’s latest collections of furniture designs and accessories will be on view at its flagship store on Via Durini.
Design events often feature works that remain confined to the temporality of the occasion. In contrast, Durini’s collective showcase exists within a continuum of production, featuring new collections, prototypes and iterations of established lines, many of which are likely to transition into the market. The activation of these renowned brands—many of whom have a long-standing presence within the district—positions Durini as a thriving ecosystem of clients, creators and collaborators. In this context, hospitality is anticipated to unfold through layers of spaces, experience and commerce.
