Leading wellness design brand Technogym familiarises visitors at Milan Design Week 2025 with the rich history and innovative journey of wellness design through The Art of Wellness. Exploring a range of technological innovations in the sector, the design exhibition showcases the earliest exercise equipment to present-day fitness products, along with Technogym's remarkable journey from a small-scale startup to a leading global brand. Presenting its new vision, Healthness, the Italian brand highlights its expertise in harnessing the potential of digital technologies and artificial intelligence, fusing it with design to create state-of-the-art gym equipment.
At the design event running from April 7 - 13, 2025, The Art of Wellness begins with a retrospective of the historical inspirations behind modern-day fitness and sports equipment. The cavallina (vaulting horse) has its origins in ancient Rome, where soldiers utilised wooden structures to simulate the process of mounting a horse. Over the years, it evolved as a military training tool, eventually turning into the vaulting horse in the 19th century by the German pedagogue Friedrich Ludwig Jahn, who first introduced the product. The cavallina, as we know it today, comprises a wooden base and a metal core, covered in a padded material and finished with leather. According to the show's press release, the earliest version of the exercise bike dates to 1796, when Francis Lowndes developed the first stationary bicycle for domestic use and patented it. Equipped with training applications, the latest smart bikes are a result of centuries of design, machinery and technological advancements.
The exhibition shifts focus to the founding of Technogym in 1983 by Nerio Alessandri, showcasing the company's first product design, Hack Squat. Designed by a 22-year-old Alessandri in his garage in Cesena, Italy, the equipment assists users in performing squats safely and effectively. Taking visitors on the brand’s four decades of innovative design journey, The Art of Wellness explores the integration of various technologies such as biomechanics and AI into its products.
Healthness, Technogym’s latest initiative, is a focal point of the exhibition, which utilises AI and 30 years of data collection through the brand’s Mywellness Open Platform, attempting to foresee diseases even before they manifest. Visitors can experience the company's new assessment station, Technogym Checkup, which studies the physical and cognitive parameters of the users. Prioritising individual goals and needs, it prescribes a personalised 'Precision Training' programme through the company’s latest AI-based Biostrength and Biocardio product ranges that are connected to the Technogym Ecosystem. The Technogym Checkup station also allows the visitors to determine their ‘wellness age’, calculated by analysing the psychological and physiological condition of the individual.
In collaboration with the publishing house Assouline, Technogym also releases The Art of Wellness book as part of the show at the design week, presenting its Italian design influences and creative vision through a series of photographs. "Today, Technogym is the brand of reference for the world's top athletes and celebrities and over 70 million people train every day on its equipment in the world's most prestigious fitness centres, clubs, hotels, medical centres and the most beautiful private homes. The book guides the reader through this extraordinary journey in the history of the brand, with a selection of photographs that capture the soul of Technogym, the people and the events that have defined its path of continuous innovation," the brand relays. Described as "a piece of art that combines aesthetics and innovation with the culture of wellness," the book attempts to stir conversations on individual and collective health.
Technogym’s latest innovations facilitate a healthy lifestyle for its users through effective, efficient and convenient products and services. Several industries, ranging from sports and fitness to corporate, hospitality and medical, benefit from the brand’s vision of hyper-personalisation of programmes.
'The Art of Wellness' takes place from April 8 – 13, 2025, at Technogym Milan, Via Durini 1, 20122 Milan, Italy.
